Hello Sun…

Picture the scene: a long and frankly insane day at work. Once the office is shut up, the lab closed down for the night. Pub, warm flat beer, salt and vinegar crisps.

Nice.

  1. I’m sorry, how is that warm flat beer supposed to be good? Wouldn’t it be better to be ‘off-chilled’ and ‘lively’?

    • Well… a traditional ale should be served at cellar temperature, so it’s not chilled, but it’s not room temperature either. In fact, read this article here to discover the perfect temperature for serving.

  2. Ah. Fair do-s then. When you said “warm”, one thought you meant ‘above room temperature’ and not 12.2°C–13.8°C (54°–57°F). Carry on then. Actually, it’s my round, isn’t it? Back in a moment… anyone else need something?

  3. A pint of Old Peculiar, a pack of scratchings and a pickled egg for me please Ian.

If we are going traditional, we might as well go the whole hogg eh?

  4. With you all the way up to the pickled egg. I resisted the egg and vinegar combo for years before finally trying one this christmas… my god, I don’t think I’ve ever put anything quite so evil in my mouth. It’s utterly disgusting. Never again.

All the more for you then Cotts?

  5. The egg is an aquired taste, but I do genuinely like them. They aren’t too good for the breath though.

I haven’t seen any in pubs for years though, I’m amazed you found any to try Phil.

  6. You finally happy now that Goodie has shuffled off her mortal coil Phil?

    • Ah, well I didn’t find a pickled egg in a pub, it was at Sacha’s house. She, like you, rather likes them, but I can’t see the attraction myself…

As for Goody, well it’s sad that someone so young has died leaving a family behind, but hacked at the outpouring of the likes of NOW and OK! with their black covers and ‘the nation mourns’ straplines… Considering that when she was alive it was the same scapsheets that would call her pig-faced and generally looking at every aspect of her life and critisising it. Media hypocrisy, I think is what I’m more peeved about. Like it or not, for some reason she was a so-called celebrity, one of the new breed that are famous for doing fuck all, and if that’s what the people want, that’s what the people get, and if it bleeds, it leads.

      Anyway… rant over. Carry on.
